This week we will look at Madam C.J. Walker. She used her own experience with hair loss to sell hair growth salve in the 1890s. Eventually she began to produce her own hair grower in 1906. In 1910 she became Madam C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company of Indiana and began training others to be ‘hair culturists’. Empowering other women through education she owned 200 schools nationwide by 1919. After her success she gave back to the African-American community and was well known for her activism. At the time of her death in 1919 she was the USA’s first self-made female millionaire! She’s the perfect example of how passion can take us far in life.
